Power of Choice

Sex laws in our society were designed to protect the innocent, but do they really? If you read statistics on sex related issues, you may walk away with idea that all escorts are drug ridden objectified enslaved victims who are forced into prostitution to survive. The idea that some women may CHOOSE this line of work seems inconceivable and blasphemous to lawmakers and feminists. Yes, it is kind of ironic that the people who insist on “my body my choice” concept, are also same very people who find it impossible that someone may make choices about their bodies. Seems like we are free to choose as long choice is preapproved by someone else.
Another ironic part is that all anti-sex-worker laws are sexist and reinforce the division of women. We are told that sex workers are victims of violence and are not capable of living their own lives unless told how, when and where by someone who knows better.
We are told that we must stop sex work to avoid this violence. If we refuse, we become accomplices of the exploitation. We are accused of being responsible for maintaining an industry that exploits and harms women.
The way I see it, the victim’s status reduces me to status of someone who is incapacitated mentally and physically. It denies me free will and choice over my own body and my ability to express consent.
Of course there are sex related crimes. It would be foolish to underestimate extent of damage done by so called agencies, pimps and sex traffickers. But what about women who work for minimum wage at labor intense environments? Do they have control over their bodies and time? Do they have capacity to just say no?
Well, a woman can get education and clean desk job. Does it make her less enslaved and less objectified? As someone with extensive corporate experience I say “hell no”!
As unbelievable as it may sound, as escort I have a lot more freedom to choose than I ever had in corporate world. Choices I make are mine to make. Consequences are mine to face. If there is anything I am not comfortable with, I always have a freedom to walk away. So why am I being portrayed as a victim?
